BRAVE Volunteer Application

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the BRAVE program.  BRAVE stands for Being Real and Vulnerable Everyday and is a men’s mentoring program operating out of Hope for Women Pregnancy Services, a community initiative of Advokate Life and Education Services Society.

BRAVE seeks to transform the lives of men facing an unplanned or crisis pregnancy with their spouse, partner, or girlfriend through one-on-one male mentorship. BRAVE seeks to make a difference in the following areas:

  1. Healthy Relationships: BRAVE mentors seek to coach other men in a lifestyle of selflessness, self-sacrifice, and self-mastery in all their relationships.  BRAVE mentors seek to help men to support and love their partner or spouse, particularly through an unplanned pregnancy.
  2. Options Counselling: BRAVE mentors seek to help men walk alongside their spouse or partner as they consider their pregnancy options:  abortion, adoption, and parenting.  BRAVE mentors will never encourage or refer for an abortion.
  3. Fatherhood: BRAVE mentors seek to coach other men in how to be hardworking and engaged fathers.

You will note that some of the questions on the application are of a personal nature.  We understand that some of volunteer mentors may have had similar experiences to those that a client is currently going through.  For that reason, we want to be sure of where they are coming from and that healing, resolution, or a rejection of those things has occurred. Eg. abortion, abuse, addiction, promiscuity, etc.  There is no right or wrong answer; rather, it helps us to understand areas of strength and growth and areas that could post a protentional challenge to someone.  All answers are kept strictly confidential and are not shared with other staff or volunteers so you can be assured that all information that you share is kept private.  We do speak candidly with the women and men who come to us for help, asking them to be open and honest with us and in turn ask the same thing of our staff and volunteer mentors.
